“Noor” means light in Urdu/Arabic. The name suggests the movement is about hope, guidance, enlightenment.
It is being promoted by youth, social media activists, and supporters of Imran Khan / PTI.
It is intended as a peaceful, non-violent form of political protest / symbolic action, not mass rallies or marches. The idea is to combine religious/spiritual expression with political dissent.
What exactly is planned
On 20 September 2025, at 9:00 PM, people are asked to go onto their rooftops (or home balconies) and recite the Azan (call to prayer) together.
The plan is for this to happen nationwide in many cities, in unison. The simultaneity is meant to amplify the symbolic impact.
Using Azan is deeply symbolic: it’s a religious act, so participating carries spiritual meaning and is hard to suppress without appearing to go against religious sensibilities.
Time chosen (after sunset, people at home) makes it easier for many to participate (less travel, more safety); rooftops/home spaces reduce risk of crowd clashes.
The peaceful and decentralized setup (people acting from their homes) makes it harder for authorities to confront it like a mass protest.
What the goals / messages seem to be
Main goal: to express solidarity with Imran Khan, who has been in custody since 2023, and to call (implicitly or explicitly) for his release.
Also a protest against what supporters call the unfair or “rigged” system — political, judicial, or governmental — along with claims of injustice.
The organizers also appear to want to show peaceful resistance, to mobilize people in a way that is non-violent but still meaningful. Use of faith (religious ritual) is central.
