Veteran Bollywood actress born in Lahore passes away at 98

Veteran Bollywood actress Kamini Kaushal passed away in Mumbai at the age of 98.

The news was confirmed by a close family friend, while the cause of death has not been disclosed. The family has also not issued any formal statement regarding the circumstances.

Born Uma Kashyap in February 1927 in Lahore, Kaushal became one of the most recognisable faces of Indian cinema. Her career spanned more than seven decades in film and television, establishing her as one of the pioneering figures of the industry.

Kaushal made her Hindi cinema debut with the 1946 film Neecha Nagar, which went on to achieve international acclaim. By the late 1940s, she had become one of the highest-paid actresses of her time, admired for her versatility and screen presence.

she appeared in major hits including Aag, Shaheed, Nadiya Ke Paar and Ziddi. Kaushal worked alongside leading actors of the era such as Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor, earning widespread recognition for her expressive performances.

In later years, Kaushal continued to take on selective roles, maintaining her presence in contemporary cinema. Her final film appearance was in Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, where she delivered yet another memorable performance.
