Saudi Arabia shoots down drones and missiles targeting Riyadh, Eastern Province

Saudi Arabia’s air defense systems intercepted waves of drones and ballistic missiles fired at the Kingdom.

A drone was intercepted and destroyed as it approached the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh, a Ministry of Defense spokesman said around midday.

At about 7.30pm, the ministry said air defenses were dealing with a ballistic threat in Riyadh.

Earlier, a ballistic missile launched toward Al-Kharj Governorate was shot down with debris from the interception falling near Prince Sultan Air Base “without causing any damage,” a spokesman said.

Another two ballistic missiles launched towards the Eastern Province were intercepted and destroyed in the evening.

The ministry reported nine drones targeting the same region since midnight local time.

The attacks on Saudi Arabia came amid yet another day of Iranian attempts to strike Gulf countries.

In the UAE, the defense ministry said it ha shot down 13 ballistic missiles and 27 drones launched from Iran.

Loud blasts were heard over Dubai in the morning.

The Emirates also named the six civilian victims of Iran’s attacks since the conflict began on February 28.

They include Palestinian woman Alaa Mushtaha, who was killed in Abu Dhabi on Monday when a missile fell on her car. Her funeral was held on Tuesday evening, local media reported.

Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah  expressed his “sincere condolences and deep sympathy to the families of the victims of Iran’s unprovoked terrorist attacks targeting the UAE.”

He condemned Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting critical civilian infrastructure, airports, residential areas, and civilian sites across the UAE.
