KP CM Sohail Afridi opposes military operation in Tirah valley, calls for dialogue instead

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has opposed any military operation in the Tirah Valley, saying that issues should be resolved through dialogue to achieve lasting peace.

He said the Afridi tribe did not agree with the committee members but were still forced to leave their homes during the harsh winter, adding that once again, the people of Tirah Valley are facing severe hardships.

Afridi recalled that after the regime change, when terrorists were trying to resettle, peace jirgas and marches were held across Khyber, Hazara, Malakand, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan.

He warned that the lives of the Pashtun people were being risked and that terrorism was being reimposed on them.
He also criticised the then PDM government for accusing them of spreading false propaganda, questioning the effectiveness of another military operation.

Afridi said that after 22 major operations and over 14,000 intelligence-based operations failed to bring peace, it is unclear what positive outcome could be expected from yet another one.
