Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking monthly medical examinations for jailed former prime minister Imran Khan by a team from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital.
Mr Gandapur’s petition requested that Dr Asim Yousaf, Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Samina Niazi be permitted to conduct the monthly check-ups and that the reports be submitted to the court and given to Mr Khan’s family.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), seeking the formation of a medical board comprising doctors from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH) for his monthly health check-ups, citing concerns over his weight loss and the risk of multiple illnesses.
The petition, filed through Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur , requests the court to order an immediate medical examination within three days as interim relief.
It further seeks directives for the examination reports to be shared with both the court and Imran’s family until a final decision is reached.
The plea maintains that Imran’s weight has dropped, raising fears of underlying medical conditions.
Meanwhile, according to K-P Advocate General Shah Faisal, the incarcerated leader’s two sisters have confirmed his noticeable weight loss, which they believe could be a symptom of illness.
Faisal said that Imran was currently not being allowed meetings, adding that during a rare visit by his sisters, they observed noticeable weight reduction.
Weight loss is often a sign of some underlying disease. That is why the chief minister directed the filing of this petition in the IHC to constitute a board of Shaukat Khanum doctors for his examination so that diagnosis and treatment can begin.
This is a matter of basic human rights,” he said.
The application, filed by Chief Minister Gandapur’s lawyer, Advocate Raja Zahoorul Hassan, stresses that Imran, aged 72, requires routine medical evaluations.
It notes that during his incarceration, his weight has declined, raising concerns about his health.
It further points out that SKMCH already has Imran’s complete medical history and requests the court to permit its medical team to conduct monthly examinations and necessary tests.
