Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Given One-Day to Submit Final Statements in Toshakhana Case
In a development that has drawn significant attention, a special court granted former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi only one day to record their final statements in the Toshakhana case related to a Bulgari jewellery set.
The proceedings, held inside Adiala Jail under Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, saw the court deny the defence’s request for a short adjournment until Monday, instead directing both accused to submit their replies by Thursday (today).
Legal experts and supporters of the PTI founder have voiced concerns that limiting the defence’s preparation time undermines the right to a fair trial, especially in a case where complex financial and procedural details are involved.
The court’s questionnaire under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code was handed to the defence after the FIA prosecution completed its evidence, which included 21 witnesses. Despite the short notice, Imran Khan’s legal team—including senior counsel and several senators—remained determined to defend the former premier and his spouse.
The case centers around an alleged undervaluation of a jewellery set gifted by the Saudi royal family. The prosecution claims the set, valued at Rs80 million, was retained after paying Rs2.9 million, but Imran Khan’s team maintains that all transactions were conducted lawfully and in line with official Toshakhana procedures.
Sources close to the PTI leadership say the case is politically motivated, aimed at discrediting the party’s founder ahead of crucial political developments. They argue that Imran Khan followed all legal protocols during his tenure and that such cases are part of a broader campaign of political victimization.
Despite the pressure, Imran Khan appeared calm and composed during the hearing, accompanied by his sisters, party senators, and lawyers, as supporters outside reiterated their faith in his leadership and integrity.
The court is expected to proceed toward a verdict once the defence files its replies, possibly marking another critical moment in Pakistan’s political and judicial landscape.
