Despite holiday, govt offices to remain open on December 26 in Islamabad

Government employees hoping to take a long weekend on December 26 may have to put those plans on hold. Despite a local holiday announced by the Islamabad administration, the Cabinet Division has ordered all federal offices in the capital to remain open of Friday.

The latest notification, issued effectively overrides the earlier local holiday, dashing the hopes of the employees at the federal secretariat, judiciary, banks and other institutions that fall under the purview of the federal government.

According to the Cabinet Division, all government offices in Islamabad will function as usual on Friday, December 26.
Earlier, the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration had announced a local holiday for government offices, and the district magistrate issued a formal notification to that effect.

The earlier order stated that all offices within the revenue limits of Islamabad would remain closed, except for institutions providing essential services, including the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority, ICT Administration, Islamabad Police, IESCO, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, and all hospitals.

The district administration had said that essential services would continue uninterrupted. The Cabinet Division’s latest notification has now overruled the local holiday for federal government employees, who will have to report to work despite the local holiday.
