Environmental experts have warned that while Lahore’s air quality is expected to remain moderate over the next couple of days, pollution levels are likely to rise during the early morning and late-night hours.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Lahore’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was projected to increase to between 140 and 165 at night.
Global monitoring data showed that Lahore’s AQI was in the “unhealthy” category. Faisalabad recorded AQI of 160 and Rawalpindi 66.
The provincial capital continued to feature on the international list of most polluted cities.
The Punjab government has launched an Air Quality Forecast System aimed at predicting smog and pollution trends.
The Meteorological Department recently begun issuing smog and air quality updates alongside regular weather forecasts, in collaboration with the provincial Environment Protection Agency (EPA).
Punjab’s Senior Minister urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures to minimise the health impacts of smog.
