Bangladeshi student leader Usman Hadi dies after shooting

Bangladeshi student leader Usman Hadi, who was critically injured in a shooting in Dhaka, has died during treatment in Singapore.

Sharif Usman Hadi, spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha, was shot last Friday in Dhaka while travelling in a battery rickshaw for an election campaign.

He was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where emergency brain surgery was performed after a bullet struck his head.

Doctors said the bullet entered above his left ear and exited from the right side, causing severe damage to the brain stem.

Hadi was later transferred to Evercare Hospital Dhaka and flown to Singapore on December 15 for advanced treatment, but doctors were unable to save him.

Inqilab Mancha confirmed his death in night via Facebook, and the news was also shared on Hadi’s verified account.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the National Citizens Party expressed deep grief, offering condolences to his family.

Law enforcement officials have identified Faisal Karim Masud as the main suspect, while Alamgir Sheikh is accused of driving the motorcycle used in the attack.

Both suspects are reported to have fled illegally to India. Police and the Rapid Action Battalion have so far arrested 14 people, including close relatives and associates of the main suspect.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.

Student protests against India continued in Bangladesh for a second day, demanding an apology for labelling the July student movement as extremist and condemning the attack on Usman Hadi.
