PTI to move NA resolution over denial of KP CM’s meeting with Imran Khan

PTI has decided to table a resolution in the National Assembly over the repeated denial of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s request to meet party founder and former prime minister Imran Khan.

According to sources, the PTI parliamentary committee met at Parliament House in Islamabad under the chairmanship of PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. The KP chief minister and several other members also attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed Afridi’s pending meeting with Imran Khan, the 27th Constitutional Amendment, and other political and organisational matters.

During the session, the PTI decided to raise the issue of the CM’s denied meeting with Imran Khan in the National Assembly by tabling a resolution on the matter, which was signed endorsed by all members.

Talking to the media after the meeting, Sohail Afridi said he had come to Islamabad to attend the parliamentary session. He said the party had decided to bring a resolution in parliament after he was not allowed to meet the party founder.

“I approached the high court seeking permission to meet Imran Khan, but its orders were not implemented. Despite the court’s directive, I was not allowed to meet him. I am adopting a democratic course — meeting my leader is my right,” he said.

Afridi said, “Parliament is the supreme authority and I will raise my voice there to secure a meeting with the PTI founder.”

Calling the 27th Constitutional Amendment “a blow to provincial autonomy,” Afridi said the party would not tolerate any attack on provincial rights and would resist all attempts to weaken democracy.

The chief minister said that the PTI was the guardian of democracy and the Constitution, adding that under the NFC Award, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s share from the federal government stood at 19.4 per cent, amounting to more than Rs7.5 billion.

He stressed that provincial autonomy granted under the 18th Amendment must be preserved and provinces must receive their due rights.

“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has made the greatest sacrifices for Pakistan — our martyrs laid down their lives for this country,” he said.

“A province that has sacrificed so much deserves respect,” the chief minister added, reaffirming that “there will be no compromise on provincial autonomy.”
